We are approaching that time of year again, and Chanel has again regaled us with a gorgeous holiday collection! At least we have that to enjoy in 2020, after/despite everything. 🙂
This collection features 1 Illuminating Powder, 4 shades of Ombre Premiere single shadows, 4 shades of Rouge Allure lipstick, and 1 Le Vernis nail colour. Of these, I think it is fair to say that the illuminating powder in ‘LES CHAĂŽNES DE CHANEL‘ has stolen the show – and it is also the one item I picked up from this collection.

This Les Chaines powder has been categorised by Chanel as an ‘Illuminating Powder’. But for my skin tone, it would definitely only work as a blush. Based on the depth taken on its own, I am not sure if deeper skintones could perhaps make it work as a highlighter. Even so, just based on the amount of shimmer included (which is moderate and not chunky), I would probably say there isn’t enough shine there to use it as a highlighter anyway, regardless of the depth.
This blush (which is how I would use it) is quite intensely pigmented and since the tone is also fairly deep, anyone with a lighter skintone should apply it carefully and build up slowly by buffing gently with a fluffy/sparse brush. This powder will provide a lovely, luminous finish – but without actually being metallic or sparkly.
The shade itself is also gorgeous. I spent some time trying to find comparable blushes in my collection, and below I’ve swatched the most similar ones I could find:

As you can see above, Les Chaines is a rose shade with a coppery golden-brown undertone (so gorgeous!). It happens to strike a really nice balance between something like the NARS Savage (which is much more brown in undertone) and the Hourglass At Night (which is much more rose, and also discussed in some more detail here).
What about you – have you treated yourself to anything from Chanel’s holiday collection this year?
